Blossom end rot a problem as well as dark spots inside seemingly healthy fruit. I like other varieties better for canning such as Opalka or Amish paste because they have more flavour and are larger so you don\'t have to peel as many tomatoes. Lots of fruit set. |

Better flavor/yield consistency than regular Roma. Too dry for eating fresh but good flavor when making sauce from it. Dehydrates well for later use in cooking. Has the occasional blossom end rot, but is minor problem. Tolerate the heat well of South Central Texas. Plants grow very tall, a lot of trellising needed. |

These tall monster-sized tomato plants are a mainstay in my garden. They are an attractive and vigorous plant with excellent productivity. The large heart shaped plants have a very attractive appearance and at present my plants have grown to 7 feet in height.
The fruit is drier than other varieties, so don't expect a lot of juice from them. I suggest you also include other varieties in your garden, as they are not what I would consider a "snacking" tomato. |

Prolific in my garden. Some blossom end rot early in season. Some tendency to have black areas inside. Small seed cavity. Dry tomato - not good for eating out of hand. Kept producing to frost. So many green tomatoes I had to can 3 times! Definately recommend. Needs some support - 4' would be enough. Good sauce tomato - mild taste. |
