Not really suited to the North, but can be grown as a transplant - while crop will not mature completely, a good harvest is possible (depending upon the cultivar, which may not be named). Plants are sprawling, semi-vining bushes that require considerable space, much like the more unruly cowpeas. The dry pods (in large clusters) turn black, but you have to find them in the dense foliage. Very space-hungry & time-consuming, this is one crop I would rather buy from the Asian grocery than grow, except as a novelty. |
