Summary:This is tops for delicate flavor and buttery texture.
What a great Lettuce. Mine got a late start and I started harvesting when temperatures where in the 90s. Daily waterings and some shade provided by cardboard, along with a mulch and the leaves stayed soft and velvety with a very fine flavor.
Flavor and texture are the reason to grow this handsome lettuce. I cannot say enough about the melting texture and mild taste. It brings a great deal to a bowl of mixed greens and is perfect for "delicate" sandwiches where a harsher lettuce would be over whelming.
I have been harvesting a few leaves every few days. This lettuce grows up, so as you collect leaves it produces new ones above the ones you clipped, so after many harvests you get a bit of a stalk at the bottom. So far it is August 3rd and hot here and with daily watering and some shade it is still going strong.
This is definitely a gourmet lettuce, and when you are growing for your own salad bowl that matters a great deal. |

Use to grow this one in Virginia. Did well for later planting as it will stand more heat that the iceberg (crisphead) types |
