Botanical name is Solanum Jilo or Jilo comprido verde claro and is very popular and sought after by the large Brazilian community here in the Boston area. It is grown mainly in the state of Minas Gerais, Brasil and is the most sought after vegetable. Many Brazilians crave these and none of the local farms grow it. I have been growing about 4000 plants per year for the last 15 years and harvest about 1000 to 1500 pound per week. The market price was $5.00 per pound at some Brazilian stores. I sold it for $3.50 and never had to compost one fruit. |
