These black-eyed peas were easy to grow, and tasted good, but did not produce many per plant. I planted 6 plants, and only harvested enough peas for one meal. Definitely plant more plants! They were easy to maintain, I just picked the pods off the plant when they were dry enough for the seeds in the pods to not "dent" with my fingernail. As I kept picking, they kept making more until it cooled down after August.

There is a numbered series of California Blackeyed peas. #5 is the most popular and is frequent sold as Blackeye Pea. A great performer and one of the best of the Blackeye peas. More popular in the mid Atlantic than the south, as other types of southern peas are more popular here. I always grow 4-6 cultivars of southern pea. This one is always in the mix.
