We have tried a few varieties over the years and Oliver is the only one we've grown that is superb for freezing. Others have become bland and almost pasty upon reheating. Older sprouts may get 'fluffy' b/c of heat, but I still recommend it. It is hard to find this seed in '10 catalogs, however.

This variety is easy to grow and continued to grow for a month after the first frost. I picked the last sprouts 2 weeks before Christmas. The taste was good, but no better than store-bought. The Japanese Beetles took a good chunk out of my plants, but a religious application of garlic soap was effective.

I grew this for the first time in 2007. I had been a fan of Bubbles but Oliver is my new love. They were easy to grow and had the best flavor of any sprout I have ever grown. They were somewhat small higher on the stalk but I like them small. This will be the only one I grow from now on.

I found them to be fairly small generally. The six plants I grew from seed at the same time were very variable. A coupe plants had large loose sprouts at the top, while others were late and small.

After growing many other varieties of brussel sprouts for 20 years, I find this and one other variety the best here in Tioga County, NY. They dependably mature into tight, tasty sprouts, especially after a few hard frosts. Also, they were disease-free the past 2 falls during extremely wet weather.

Excellent early variety, consistant producer, excellent taste and size. My number one choice. I prefer mine cooked, marinated overnight in Italian dressing in the refrigerator and served cold. Yum!
