I\'m surprised the other review had such difficulties with this bean. Lazy Housewife has been a great producer in my garden. I\'ve grown it for several years now. I save the seeds from year to year to grow too.

I should say that I grew Lazy Housewife not Lazy Wife. They are two different beans

The lazy housewife just did not produce well in a cooler than normal season in upstate NY. It had a nice flavor, but yielded almost nothing to speak of. Still debating if we should try again in 2010.

I know this one as Lazy Wife. It was popular alongside Kentucky Wonder (Brown Seeded) in the early 20 th century. It grows well, with small 5-6 inch oval pods. Tend to get shucky (fibrous) much quicker than Kentucky wonder, but has good pole bean flavor when picked young. In recent years, some companies have vended seed which do not match the original Lazy Wife. The original as described in Burpee's 1888 catalogue are 4.5 to six inches in length and are oval (semi-flat).
