First off, 2010 was a lousy year here for bugs, disease, and lack of decent rainfall, so the plant had a lot to contend with off the bat. I think this variety has done much better for friends in better years. Still, flavor was rich and well balanced, flesh a good deep mahogany, but prone to odd shapes and cracking which made it less attractive from a market standpoint. Yield was so-so, but it was down on all tomatoes because of the season being bad. This one scored 25th of 38 varieties in our Annual Tomato Tasting. For a black tomato, we far prefer Japanese Black Trifele for flavor, ease, and production. |

I tried these last year and never got to taste them because the blight got my plants. The plants were growing great and were loaded with fruit. So I rated them even though I never tasted them....have to assume they were at least a 4 in taste. |

tastes good, moderate production, terrible disease tolerance. Mine is blighted when all around it are heirloom varieties that are doing fine. |

Black from Tula is one of my very favorite tomatoes. As other reviewers have said, it isn't an early tomato, but it is a heavy producing, reliable mid-season tomato that is delicious. It has that beautiful color and the yummy smokey flavor you hope for in a black. In my garden it didn't have any disease issues and in fact, withstood a break out of blight, heavily producing right through it! Highly recommended. |

My Tula's get HUGE. They have incredible flavor and are one of the few non-paste types I grow. IMHO one of the best flavored "black" varieties. They are a little slower here to ripen but worth the wait. I add some of these to my mainstay sauce tomato, Costoluto Genovese for a hint of smokey/citrusy flavor.
I believe they are one of the largest blacks as well. Once you grow them, you will be saving seeds for next year! |

These are lovely maroon red balls of delicious tomato taste. Their color is very stunning. I was however disappointed with the yield, but that may have more to so with the drought than the plant itself. They are very susceptible to cracking after a rain. I would grow them again and pray for more rain. |

This is my favorite variety that I grow. Excellent tomato with a good old fashion
tomato taste. Deep colorations gives a
lovely zest to plate or salad. This tomato gives a moderate yield of medium size
fruit. Large vine will require cage. Overall
this is a wonderful tomato to add to your
garden. |
