Direct seeded in 2005. While germination was fair and I neglected them, I still had 10 or so plants which produced a nice crop. By far, the sweetest-tasting sprouts are produced after a slight frost, so I would time these to mature in very cool weather if possible. (People who don't like sprouts have probably only had frozen or fresh ones which are bitter due to their maturing in hot weather - which, commercially, I guess is hard to avoid). I would also stake the tall plants. They overwintered, then went to seed, producing pretty yellow flowers, then tons of seed pods. It seems you only need a few plants to have zillions of seeds. I plan to grow a fall crop and process them by freezing. |
