I grew these (Yellow Mangels actually) this year. They did well and were fairly trouble free, but took some time to both germinate and mature. The flavor is less pronounced than a standard red beet, but still fairly sweet and you can still tell it is a beet. The tops are very uniform and great for steaming. They do get large, given sufficient water and are a fun departure from the standard red varieties.
