Fun to watch grow. i planted around the same time as peas, and Wisconsin has a freezing spring lasting about 2 weeks. I had to replant the peas, but the Fava beans are survirovers. I cut them to the dirt after summer kicked in and in the cool fall they tried to grow again. The tast was good something between aspargus and bean, creamy texture. |

In my experience, these favas are unstoppable. I did once have them attacked by rose chafers in a garden in Vermont (a warm zone 4) but all I did was cover them with reemay for a week or so, and the critters went away. Nice yield of very tasty beans. Beautiful flowers, too. |
