I grew the Lolla Rossa Lettuce variety for the first time in my 2021 Spring garden. The leaves are frilly and dark red, so this variety is a great ornamental for your garden. In terms of productivity and yield, it\'s OK, not great. I think that other varieties like the buttercrunch butterhead have a better yield. |

Beautiful lettuce. Medium sized plants with thicker leaves. Plain old lettuce flavor. Altogether, an average lettuce. |

Our plants never got more than 4" tall--the oakleaf and simpson lettuces next to them did well. The taste was blah, although the deep red ruffles, what there were of them, added interest to the salad bowl. We will be looking for a better red lettuce. |

These plants germinated very well and took to my heavy clay soil without much problem. They were gorgeous to look at with their appearance much like a frilly maroon rose. They tasted very fibrous to me when they were young and when the heat hit in early may they instantly were oozing bitterness. It's my first year growing lettuce so maybe next year I'll figure out this plant. |
