Although crisphead is not my favorite type of lettuce, Sierra cannot be beaten for year-round reliability here in southern California. It outperforms every other variety. It is uniformly sweet, crisp and refreshing, even on the hottest days of summer. Sierra seed is not easy to find. Johnny's sells "an improved Sierra," which it calls Magenta.

Sierra is my all-time favorite lettuce to grow in my garden. Fast growing in the Spring, holds extremely well in Summer heat and adds a thick crunch to any salad. Colorful bronze and green large leaf variety.

Holds for a long time without bolting. If I had to grow just one variety, this would be it.
