This vine was slow to start, since I experienced a long, cold spring until late May. However, once the hot, dry, humid summer hit, I was able to harvest leaves with abandon. The red Malabar sprawled over the fence and started blooming before I noticed, even though I forgot to water it. The other vine, a green malabar in the shade, languished in size, staying a compact 3-4 feet long, but never flowered. I was able to harvest leaves until frost. I highly recommend this plant if you stir-fry or cook spinach.
