I have to disagree with the description - and perhaps the breeding of this variety has changed since its inception in the 70's - but this one produces great main heads as well as prodigious side shoots. One thing about broccoli (and cauliflower) is that the environment, including weather, can be more important than variety for a particular year. So it's very difficult to rate a variety unless you've grown it for many years. I prefer other varieties for flavor and for freezing, as this one can be a bit loose, but it's always available as stars here and nearly always produces something.

A 1975 hybrid from Takii. It is a main season variety that takes a bit too long for reliable production as a spring planting in middle Georgia. Doing nicely in this years cool damp spring. It is a big plant, with big heads. It does produce nice sideshoots.

large, vigorous plants, produce large 10\" heads, good spring crops, 2wks later than some varieties so it can be a bit of a gamble if the weather warms to much. finishes june 1st, and cant survive in mid june heat. its a good standard. but i prefer a smaller plant profile that yealds more heads per square foot, matures faster, with better color and flavor. grew about 200 plants the organic way, had broccoli about 2-3 weaks

Grows best as a late spring crop. I have not had good success with planting for a fall crop. Very big heads. Germinates well.

Most reliable quality and production for fall crop of those we've tried though outdone in good years by others. Short main harvest helps get freezer loaded. Has not done well as a spring crop however.

Fast, easy, large head and good side shoots (though later, the shoots can get a bit woody). Long lasting.

Excellent variety for fall planting in Louisiana. Large main head; secondary heads also quite large. Recommended by Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service.
