Good yield if started early and well fed/ watered. Excellent storage with tops trimmed, roots pulled and soil left on. Did not find it too wasteful when trimming roots but have no experience with other varieties. Cellar or bury in a cooler with a few bails of straw on top. Kept 4 months for me with the cooler method. Am trying Brilliant this year side by side. Switching to as many open pollinated vegetables as I can to save seed.

I planted seed indoors mass planting early alng with onions. Set them out in early chilly spring. The plants required plenty of H2O and nutrients to gain size. I had a few with hollow heart? but these canned great and were tasty. Mulch well in fall, to regrow to save seeds the next year. The 2nd year seeds were fatter and just as tasty, but by then knew better how to deal with them.

Really like the taste included in mashed potatoes. Also, good in soup but quite sweet. Starting indoors is necessary here and it seems to prefer good soil. Hate all the roots that need to be trimmed off. Don't do any of that trimming if you are thinking of storing for more than about a month. Best to just wash the dirt off as best as you can.
