I have grown this potato for three years and love it. It doesn\'t produce really big potatoes for me often, but enough that it makes it really fun harvesting them. It is one of the best purple/ blue potatoes that I have grown. They only downfall is that they have a short dormancy and you have to eat them within a few months. If you can get past this, you will not be disappointed in this variety.

2010 is my second year for Purple Viking. My daughter, son and I love this variety. The huge size of the potatoes, disease resistance, good plant habit , a great yield make for a great potato. The taste is fabulous and lends well to all types of cooking. I recommend this potato for anyone to try.

Probably my favourite potato. Thin, deep purple skins underlaid with magenta give a beautiful tie-dyed effect. The flesh is very white with a flavour I can only describe as essence of potato. It produces perhaps fewer potatoes than other varieties but it has enough, and they are often absolutely enormous. Very versatile in the kitchen. It has grown well for us in our very sandy soil, in a cold wet year and also in a hot dry year. NOTE: Much as I love these, I do not find them the best keepers. The colours fade, and they are amongst the first to start sprouting. Still, they are so delicious and so beautiful when fresh, I will continue to grow them. I wil just be sure to eat them fairly promptly.

Fantastic tasting, huge size, great skin, easy to grow for the first-timer. Will definitely grow more next season. Only drawback is yield wasn't that good.

I am a first time potato grower and didn't know what to expect. I had to amend the soil in the spring but after that the plants were low maintainance. From 2.5 lb of seed potato I harvested 28 lbs. I love the taste. The Viking Purple works well with every form of preparation, including french fried and hash browns.

Excellent yeilds of huge potatoes which was great for a longtime hick food snob and first time grower. Excellent flavor with a touch of sweetness that makes it very interesting. Don't worry, it's not sweet potato sweetness, but a real subtle sweet that pairs really well with leaks or sweet onions. Makes really good oven fries as long as you don't cut them too thin. And mashed purple vikings with sauteed leeks is one of the best mashed potatoes I have ever eaten.

I will start with the bad thing first. This potatoe was hard to digest for people with certain food allergies. Now the good news. Viking produces lots of big potatoes so much I felt like yelling jackpot on each hill. It did this without watering and only weeding. The plants are nice sized and show no problems with disease which is typical for the more hybridized potatoes. Flavor is not too earthy and kind of potatoe bland with a slight watery character. Viking is not purple, but red skinned
