this variety learns about frost quickly it only took one time for frost to kill the tops ,now it pokes it's heads just above ground until it is warm enough then it takes off growing. this variety also produces a long time as long a you don't let it go to seed. it takes three years to grow even from roots before you can pick it clean. to fertlize use rock salt & lime along with regular triple 12 fertilizer.

A good traditional standby, easy keeper and good producer after a few years getting established. Light manure additions (well aged only) scratched in the spring keep the beds chugging along each season, along with heavy (4-inch) mulching for weed control.

An older open pollinated variety that was a standard. I have not had an asparagus bed since moving to Georgia, but this cultivar did reasonably well in Virginia. I started it with crowns and then added a bed from seed. Weeding and controlling asparagus beetles were the only problems. And of course patience. It took 3 years to get asparagus from seed.
