| Indeterminate means get out your clippers. This plant, in the middle of a historic drought, grew like its life depended on it. All tomatoes were uniform and plump (no ribbing) and most were in the 1lb range for weight. Plant was terminated at 12\' in height and 8\' in width. 150lbs of tomatoes were harvested and 78lbs were discarded. Flavor was excellent, mild acid. Disease resistance in my opinion was exceptional. |

| Very disease resistant easy to grow and nice looking tomato. Don't waste your time if you are after any actual tomato flavor. This hybrid is February grocery store tomato stuff. Mealy and flavorless. |

| I will preface this with mine was an open pollinated variety from Sand Hill Preservation Center which Glenn Drowns developed with the original creator of Big Boy and not the Burpee Hybrid.
Mine were reverting to the beauty of tomatoes not hybrids in some were beefstake in size. They are though reliable, high producing and a flavor I grew up with as what a tomatoe should be in highly acidic, not mushy, a slight unripe tang to them and a nice fresh tomatoe flavor.
I searched for years for this flavor my Grampa grew in the 70's and am delighted to finally have Big Boy. It is better than the modern hybrids of Better Boy and Fantastic by a mile. That is why people love this tomatoe as it is the real tomatoe flavor most of us grew up with. |

| I really don't understand the popularity of Big Boy and Better Boy. Yes, they are productive and disease resistant. The tomatoes look good, but the flavor is lacking. If I wanted a tomato that looks good but is flavorless, I'd save myself the time and trouble and just buy tomatoes at the grocery store. Yes, they are marginally better than supermarket tomatoes, but not by much. Sometimes I think it's all people know, and if they ever tasted a really good tomato, they'd never go back. |
