| Excellent bean. Prolific and sturdy. I did have an infestation of bean leaf beetles, but the plants shrugged it off and outgrew the damage. Sown 6/10. Continues to pump out the beans as Aug 20th. Excellent freezer. |

| This bean has a wonderful, true "beany" flavor. I've found the yield to be good and the plants strong. In my garden, it does best with some support - being string run down the row on either side of the plants - as they tend to flop over when bearing. I haven't experienced any problems with disease.

| These beans germinated well and produced extremely well in this year's drought. I am currently saving some to harvest as dry beans so I'll see how that goes. I am overall very pleased with this variety.
However, during about July these plants were stripped of all but leaf veins by Mexican bean beetles while the only ate at the other varieties when they had finished on Black Valentines. I need to learn how to better organically control these vermin so that I can enjoy these beans longer. |

| Black Valentine has the most wonderful "beany" flavor of any snap bean I have grown.
The plants are large and rather sprawling in my soil (silty loam) and produce a good-sized crop.
Germination was excellent and the plants very healthy throughout the growing season.
I had no disease problems with Black Valentine. I can't comment on its ability to withstand insect attacks as I've not had any serious infestations.
I'm very pleased with this heirloom bean - especially for its wonderful flavor and reliability. |

| This bean tastes wonderful as a green snap bean. I did not try it as a dry bean because of low yields due to serious Mexican Bean Beetle infestation. I will grow this crop again but plant it every two weeks throughout the growing season. It was easy to grow and produced earlier than the Days to Maturity listed on the package. Also, it is a very beautiful dry bean! |

| I have yet to find a bush bean that is a true equal to pole beans, but Black Valentine is one of the two best I have tried (Jade is the other). Good yields and good flavor. I plant in early July for fall crop, have not tried growing an earlier crop. |
