Beans, beans and more beans. Good taste and freeze better than most. No issues with disease or pests. Plants easily blow down in strong winds but it doesn\\\'t seem to effect yield.

There\'s not much I can say about this variety that hasn\'t been said - it\'s a staple to me and to many others. You can rely on heavy yields and great taste even when the weather doesn\'t cooperate, though last years hot/dry summer really limited me to two good pickings before the quality really dropped off.

My parents always raised blue lake bush beans. This year to make them happy I grew them as my main bush bean. They did very well and produced alot of beans. I did not get them planted until after June 10th. I had just moved from KS to PA. Overall they are a nice got o bean they are not fancy or produce the perfect bean to look at but they did really well for me and they canned really well also. They are not my favorite bean and I might plant some again this year but I always like something different. I have raised Jade in the past and I believe it to be a superior bean than this blue lake bean. This year I am going to try Inspiration green bush beans and Bronco bush beans to see how I like them. Already ordered my seeds! I am also going with Blue lake S-7 pole beans, Blauhilde pole bean and Fortex pole beans. I am also going to give the yellow wax bean Gold Mine a try also. I also raised Yellow beans this year and they out preformed the Blue Lake 274 even though they did not have the \"Prime\" spot in the garden.

We planted one 25 foot row of these this year, direct seeded. They came in very vigorous, more vigorous than any other row we planted. The beans have above average flavor - good crunch, very slightly sweet, no stringiness. I\'d like a bit more robust of a flavor. They do send out vines once the plant has grown to about 15\" and do need to be tied up or trained on a trellis/pole.

A great green bean. Production is good and enduring with juvenile picking. A good variety as companion with potatoes for repelling Colorado potato beetle (CPB; only two non-companioned potato plants drew CPB. In silt loam they grew 8-10" long, in sand they still attained 7-8" length. With my four year rotation I still inoculate.

Harder time emerging from the soil if it's too cold. Takes a little longer to produce than some beans, but the beans are long and large with very little bean in them. I can get up to a month and a half out of them before pulling the plants. Each plant takes approximately 1 week to reset new beans after being stripped of any of good size. It's best to wait until they are larger than most beans as they are slow to being stringy and will produce lots more flesh before producing beans (you can tell starting out at what size to pick by splitting the bean length wise and looking at the developing bean). Flavor is excellent if eaten raw, and doesn't need much time in the steamer. If the beans being cooked have gotten mushy it means you've cooked them too long.

These were the healthiest and best performing of the 4 varieties of bush beans I grew this year! Harvest comes all at once. Beans are straight, at approx 7", and mine were stringless. Seed was from Burpee.

Nice straight, tender beans on first flush. Not as long lived as other varieties.

I consider a very mediocre variety, modest flavor with tough but mushy texture. Not my favorite.

Great bean for early harvest. I got several pickings before I pulled the plants. The bean does get a bit mushy when cooked, but I like it this way.
