The Green Bean Tendergreen Improved Variety has performed well in my garden for the past couple of years. While my dragon tongue variety produced a harvest earlier, the tendergreen improved variety still does its job and creates tasty dishes.

I grew Tendergreen improved beans last year, and have some planted for this year. They produce well and grow fast. Mine succumbed to some disease and slugs later on in the season, but they continued to give me harvests despite that. The taste is great- much better than store-bought for sure!

As an experiment we planted Tendergreen, Tenderette and Tendercrop beans. The Tendergreen outperformed the others by a yard. The yield started earlier, lasted longer and tasted better. They are starting their second blooming now and will probably give us another crop in a few weeks. Entirely satisfactory variety.

We have planted this variety for several years, finding it to be reliable, disease resistant and tasty. Here in Texas heat stops production, but if we get the seeds in early enough, we can count on a good crop. While not an extremely heavy bearer, the crop is sufficient for us to freeze and to eat from a 50' row. The taste is excellent. We find that an application of manure shortly after the true leaves appear on the plants increases yield.

This is one of the three best-tasting green beans I've grown. It is very productive all season and germinates well even in cool soil. But it seems overly susceptible to a nasty grey fungus that envelops the tip and proceeds to devour the bean. If you miss seeing it and put an infected fruit in a picking basket, you can mess up quite a few good beans. That's the only drawback I know of, and early picking largely avoids the problem.

This is our favorite bean. They always produce abundantly, are beautiful plants and are my favorite to can and freeze. They grow well in all of the soil types I have gardened in, and seem to be somewhat resistant to most diseases common to beans. If I had to pick only one bean variety, this would be the one!
