| Vigorous pole type. Perhaps one of the most attractive dry beans; nearly spherical, dark maroon, glossy. The 3-4" pods shrink down over the seeds as they dry, and offer excellent protection against moisture... but are rather hard to shell, especially green. Very few culls. The flavor is very similar to "Red Kidney". Lots of good qualities, but I wasn't very impressed with the yield. |

| I had a good yeild, but here in Wisconsin the shorter season did not allow for me to let pods dry on vine. The bugs, left them alone as the japaneese beattle enjoyed the other bean varities I grew better. |

| Unique shape, color and flavor. Best for dry beans -- they don't develop their color until they're fully mature. One of the tastiest dry beans I know. The only time I've had trouble with this variety was on a very very wet year when nothing else did well either. |

| These are my favorite dry beans for chili, and they would likely be very good as baked beans. I grow them on a fence of concrete re-inforcing mesh (6 x 6in) about 5 ft high. Planted in the first week of June, they are ususally very high yielding, although, this year I had very poor germination - I used seeds puchased for 2004. |

| 2006 - I used the whole crop as dried beans and they were very productive. A bag of dried beans actually looks like a bag of cranberries. About the same color and shape. |
