First grew this as a novelty, but it's worth growing every year. Tall, somewhat spindly stalks with few tillers; this allows closer spacing than most sweet corns I've grown. The ears are not the largest, but are surprisingly fat, with excellent tip fill. Tight husks. Generally one good ear per stalk. Flavor is good fresh, not so good frozen. To get the best red color, the ears must be allowed to ripen a little past prime, when they are not as sweet & tender, but still tasty. Best way to prepare is to steam or broil in the husk, to preserve the color. For me this does best if planted late, to mature just before frost. |

An outstanding performer for me. Excellent flavor, and a vigorous plant that yields well. |
