Garden Size: Large - More than 1,600 square feet (40' x 40')

Hardy, with excessively good germination rates. Low sugar variety unless picked extra young, but is a good sell for folks not wanting sugary corn who want a corny taste. Good market in the diabetic community as well. Very drought tolerant.

Planted spring 2007 for old time flavor of SU variety I used to plant in the 60s. Really enjoyed Iochief then but must compare to todays "Delectable" and "Montauk". Ratings are from past experience. Will update after 2007 pick. 7/17 and over 7' tall w/2 ears per stalk. ps: I think this is an SU variety, not SE as listed.

Grew a lot of this middle aged hybrid in the 70's. Big vigorous plants that yield exceptionally well. It has two major faults. The big ears tend to protrude from the shuck (husk) inviting those little black bugs (sap beetles) and it has a tough pericarp (skin).
