This was an old favorite of my Dad\'s and one I like to grow as well. Very good corn flavor with a good yield. Also very little if any problem with corn earworm while other varieties I grew had problems. Only real drawback is corn smutt which was a big problem with Silver Queen this year. Will probably grow again when I do corn next time. |

This is the standard by which all sweet corn are judged in this area. It is a late corn requiring 3 month plus for roasting ears. It does not germinate as readily as many other varieties in cool soil, so should not be planted very early in the season. Large ears, well filled and very tolerant of adverse conditions during its growing season. Not quite as sweet as Silver King and 10 days later, but they make an excellent combination for extended harvest. |

The absolute single best New England corn bar none. The flavor is amazing. Each kernel has a bust of flavor that actually has flavor, not just pop. Was a longtime fan as an eater of this corn from roadside stands, but am even more of one now that I grow it. I often struggle with corn, but this has been amazing for me. Every ear full. Stalks survived some brutal wind and rain in 08 that knocked over several other varieties. One really bad microburst storm ravaged my corn patches but all of my Silver Queen made it through almost completely unaffected. The only downside is that it is relatively late and I still struggle to find an early corn to compliment it. |

Planted May 7 in 2006 and we were picking first week in August. Germination was good. The only pest problem we had were Japanese Beetles. We hand picked 'em and sprayed with "Suround" (kaolin clay) before the corn silked. This seemed to keep the Beetles off initially. We got good pollination. This corn is highly popular here and rightly so. Ears were tender, sweet, and held on the stalk a long time. They almost need no cooking. I only wish it were an open pollinated type. We had a small bit of cross-pollination with Kandy Korn or possibly Sugar Dots which did NOT improve the quality of some ears - a word to the wise. |

Silver Queen seems to be the standard sweet corn in the mountains of Virginia. I usually plant on 1 June; my neighbor plants it 2 weeks earlier ... we all harvest at the same time. I don't usually get the 2-ears-per-stalk yield that's advertised on the seed packets; but still, the yields are good.
Great taste, and very reliable |

One of the best in south Georgia. Very vigorous even in poor soils. Don't plant until soil warms. This is the variety I count on for the main crop. |
