It was a tasty, if light harvest with Country Gentleman this past year. It fared better than Kandy Korn or the hybrid Silver Queen. All three had irregular and light water during the growing season due to an irrigation problem. Country Gentleman is not the tallest in this photo but came on late season with fruit that was exceptional. It did not store well, nor did it last long on the stalk.

A great oldie for roadside markets, etc. People buy em like hotcakes. Must have a long growing season is the only distinct disadvantage to this variety.

In my youth ther were three major white sweet corns, Truckers Favorite, Stowells Evergreen and Shoe Peg ( Country Gentleman). It sports a large ear, with long narrow white kernals randomly arranged on the cob. In its hey day there were several competitors, including Howling Mob, with a similar appearance. It remains popular for cream style corn and is still grown commercially for that purpose. A good corn but well short of modern hybrids in all categories.
