I have tried to over-winter one of these for 6 years now and finally last year accomplished it! The plants seem to respond well to raised beds in our mucky clay soil, especially when it is very wet. The raised beds also kept the crowns from rotting during the winter thaws. Although I have yet to get an artichoke(hopefully next summer), the plants grew huge this year and are quite ornamental. I find them very easy to grow from seed, starting them indoors in Jan.-Feb.
