We grew this for the first time this year, and will definitely be growing it again. I loved the mild but rich flavour, and I was not the only one - everyone in the family thought this was great. Persimmon was one of the first of the large beefsteak-type tomatoes to start producing, and the last to still be producing as frost approaches. This is in spite of septoria spot which seriously damaged all our tomatoes this year. The quantity produced was very respectable - it does not produce like a paste tomato, but it was definitely in the upper end for beefsteak type tomatoes. One reason it did relatively well against the septoria spot was that this is a large, rangy plant - give it good support. It was crack-free in a year designed to crack tomatoes. ADDED 2013: this has become one of our favourite tomatoes. Very reliable in all conditions. Tomatoes are delicious raw, and dense enought that any excess (and it produces enough tomatoes that there will be considerable excess) can go into tomato sauce very easily. One of our few will-always-plant tomatoes. Do not confuse this plant with the Russian tomato called Persimmon.

This is my first time growing Persimmon. Not only is it beautiful but also prolific. The size ranged from 8 oz to 11/2 pounds. The fruit ripens over an extended period of time to avoid overload.

I love the flavor but have trouble with fusarium wilt here. One of my favorites for flavor. Someone should remove 2 of Mr Wizards ratings. Rating something a 1, three times seems like it unfairly scews the overall rating.

Easy to grow, interesting to look at but not worth the effort. I grew two plants this year. They looked great but they were mealy and tasted like cardboard. Supermarket tomatoes in January taste better. They were so bad I tore the plants out and threw them away. If you want an orange tomato try Kellogg's Breakfast. That one tastes 10 times better. One star for taste is innaccurate but there's no way to give it zero.

There are few tomatos as lovely looking as Persimmon. It is a deep orange color and has a lovely real tomato flavor. The main problem with the plant is it really doesn't produce well and of all of the plants in my garden, it fared the worst in the cold, wet summer. If you have lots of space and live in a warmer climate, plant a bunch of these plants because the tomato is a true pleasure, and with many plants you'll get a decent number of these lovely gems. For my limited space urban garden, it simply does not have the production level to make the cut again.

very dense flesh (in a good way) with very good taste. beautiful tomato. I would rate it 5 stars buit I had slow maturity (Florida winter grwoing) and lower productivity than others.

This has excellent flavor, but was not very prolific. The first year none of the seeds sprouted from the company, but it had such excellent ratings that I tried again.

This was the best tasting tomato in my garden. Not the greatest producer per plant, but the 3 tomatos I got were very large and blemish free. Highly recommend this variety, but plant a few extra!

One of my favorite tomatoes. It's a sweet, rich-tasting tomato. Very meaty. Most fruits weighed in around 1lb. The color is gorgeous - a golden-orange color. I have limited garden space but I'll be growing this again this year. The yield wasn't great but all of my tomatoes (except for Sungold) had low yields last summer. This one actually was one of the higher yielding ones.
