Beautiful and vigorous plant with no evidence of disease or significant insect damage. Strong basil aroma when cut. Note: leaves turn almost black when cooked. Though the taste is still good, it is not too attractive in a sauce. However, they are beautiful when mixed raw in a salad or appetizer.

We had a difficult year between extreme heat and lack of precipitation combined with COVID restrictions, the garden did not get the attention it normally would. We did not get any of this seed to germinate. I sowed twice, 5/27 and 6/10. I believe it was due to the soil being too hot. Cannot review this one.

This herb grew beautifully without much fuss. Strong, healthy leaves & stems. Its yield was excellent, very prolific. Each time I\'d visit, it had grown replacing what had been harvested. It looked healthy with no blemishes on leaves or stems and tasted delicious. Excellent.

Very dark purple, very pretty with the ruffles but in this bed competing with the tomato plant and other basil it did not grow very well.

The purple ruffle basil was supplied with water through our drip irrigation system despite the hot and dry growing conditions. We direct sowed into the garden bed. Many seeds did not come up due to the dry conditions. The basil that came up was tall and medium fullness of the leaves. It has a dark deep purple leaf color.

This purple basil was easy to grow and beautiful, but it was not as tasty as the green basil varieties I grew. I think it is more for ornamental purposes.

I really like this basil. It's licorice type flavor blends with a sweet or Genovese basil to make a great pesto. I have had decent luck with it, although it is not as prolific as other basil varieties I've grown.

only a small percentage of mine were purple. Most were green. The seeds were from Burpee. I just started some seedlings for this year from the same seed packet and they are 90% green again. Am I doing something wrong?

Not a fussy plant, but a slow-growing one. I experiment with a new basil every year, and I doubt I'll make this experiment a permanent addition to my herb garden. No hard feelings - I just think there are more interesting basils out there.

Planted one between pepper plants. Beautiful but not productive. Mild taste, not as flavorful as genovese or lemon, but still good. Worth growing again next year.

Easy to grow, though not very prolific. The taste is okay but not too interesting. Along with Basil 'Red Rubin', this type of basil is a good colourful addition to salads. Can be used to flavour vinegar, but I personally prefer 'Red Rubin'. When this basil flowers, it is very pretty. Makes a nice addiiton to the garden.
