Excellent low growing shelling pea. Seed germination near 100% each year I have planted these. My first experience with Tom Thumb was using them to teach a pre-school class about seeds and plants, and each kid planted and took home a seedling. My kids (age 3-6) grow these in their raised planters each spring with great success, and I have started using them as well in my large raised beds in front of the trellises where I grow long-vining types (much like putting bush beans in front of pole beans growing on trellises). They do not yield a lot of peas per plant, but they are very short plants, so they are not meant to yield as much as a long vine would. I plant a 4x8 bed full of them and it yields enough for my family of 5 plus extra for neighbors. |

This is the best early, determinate pea we\'ve grown so far. The plants reached easily 2 1/2 feet, in spite of being supposed to be short, but every pea we grew this year was way taller than advertised. Production was excellent, and the peas were the most tasty early pea we have had yet. Later, pole type peas are generally the best tasting, but these were a lot better than just acceptable. On the other hand, when these are done, they\'re done - pull them out and plant something else. |
