I was first introduced to these ground cherries at a Rutgers Tomato tasting last year. I find it really odd that something that tastes this good and is so easy to grow is ignored by most home gardeners. You don't even have to guess when they're ready to be picked. They just fall off the plant and you pick them up. Simple enough? They're even clean because they're in a paper husk. The taste is like nothing you've ever had before. It's the texture of a ripe cherry tomato, moderately sweet, with a mild pineapple taste. The grand kids love them and I have to admit, so do I. If you've got room, don't miss these little gems. By the way, my plants got a lot larger than expected. It's mid-August and they're 6' wide x 4' tall. No staking is necessary.
