As noted by others, this is a popular cabbage with the insect crowd. However, it is a good grower and produces our earliest cabbages for summer use. We had intermittant drought followed by periods of heavy rain this summer and this was the only one that split. However, we just picked them as they split and used them. Because it is an early cabbage we have not attempted to store these for any length of time. They do not get too big - a nice size for smaller households.

This must be a tasty cabbage cause the bugs sure like to get after it. If I get transplants into the ground very early I can get a good crop before the cabbage moths arrive from the south.

So far, this has been the best early cabbage. I start seeds inside under lights in mid-March, and then set in the ground end of April. I cover them with spunbonded row cover to let them get ahead of the bugs. The heads are fairly dense for an early cabbage.
