Very large, reasonably productive plants - they need good trellising. The beans are delicious, and stay tender even until fairly large. They are also very pretty, having a two-toned green and yellow effect. They really do taste like mushrooms! We had bean yellow mosaic virus (I think) in the bean beds this year, and Grandma Nellies seemed fairly resistant. A few leaves, mostly at the bottom of the plants, showed signs of damage but otherwise the plants were unaffected. We will definitely want to grow more of this next year. UPDATE 2013: Moderate to poor resistance to anthracnose.

I ONLY PLANTED 2 TEEPEES (8 PLANTS) OF THIS BEAN BUT CANNED 25 QUARTS AND COOKED SEVERAL BATCHES TO EAT FRESH. GREAT YIELD, GREAT TASTE (EVEN AFTER CANNING). THEY PRODUCED RIGHT UNTIL FROST. I'M GROWING THEM AGAIN THIS YEAR.

I grew this snap bean for the first time last year and really liked it, as did other members of our garden group. Bore well all season, beginning 53 days from sowing, and continued bearing into cool weather longer than Rattlesnake, which is my usual snap bean. Big meaty pods really do have a flavor reminiscent of mushrooms when cooked. Freezes well.
