I have not grown other varieties to compare, but this grows well for me, producing some very large tubers (about 2 pounds). Dry flesh, not especially sweet but a rich flavor. Last fall I got several other varieties - White Hayman, Jewel, Hernandez, & Beauregard - from a local farmers' market and my family had a taste test; we all liked Yellow Jersey best. It is an heirloom variety which was grown in New Jersey before 1780, and is said to prefer sandy soil, although it does fine in both my gardens (one exceedingly well-drained loam, the other clay loam).
