Description: Long-day, heirloom, storage/cooking, sweet/salad type. Produces 4- to 6-inch, flattened-globe bulbs with deep purple-red skin and pinkish-white flesh with red circles. Grown since at least 1843. Grows well in northern climates. Reliable keeper with memorable flavor.

Easier to grow than most red onions but if you are looking for a sweet red onion this is not it. It is an extremely pungent cooking onion with excellent keeping qualities. I think that it it is the only red onion grown from sets . More flattened shape than most reds.
