french heirloom variety, over a hundred years old, requires a specific culture, but when grow right is the best nothing compares in quality to this variety when well grown dark maroon outer leaves, pale lime green interior hearts should be be the size of a tennis ball before picking, i would like to see it be more stable, the larger phenos are the size of a dinner plate. pick it before june 1st. sensitive to heat

I really enjoyed growing this lettuce this season. It is beatifull to look at and really good in salads. Had no problems with this and it was very late to bolt. Will grow again next season.

I'm having a great time growing this this year. It's beautiful to look at. I started picking leaves a month or so ago. It does form loose heads which I've recent started picking. It's holding up well to July's heat without bolting or getting bitter. Aphids love the seedlings, but this lettuce has been very prolific despite aphids slugs & snails.
