This old variety really fills the gap for broccoli, and is superb in hot climates which make growing cauliflower difficult. It matures well ahead of Harlequin bugs. It is hardy down to 0 degrees F. High yields for Cauliflower here. This is not a self-blanching variety, and only unblanched heads develop a purple color. Depending on spring conditions, heads hold for only a couple of days to a week, when they begin to more strongly resemble broccoli, and do not resprout when cut (a true cauliflower). This strain is highly variable, and can be selected for a season or two to achieve higher uniformity. Otherwise, it is advisable to plant two seedlings where one is to stand, and in late winter, thin the less vigorous of the two
