Such an easy squash to grow- doesn\'t get bothered by vine borers and seems to just ignore powdery mildew and keep growing. It does far and away better than most will in the hot and humid weather of Atlanta. I grow this almost every year, as it seems like I just stick the seeds in the ground and walk away until harvest. \r\n\r\nI find this squash to keep extremely well, and have eaten October\'s harvest through March. They make great fall gifts, as the fruits are quite decorative. It\'s not my favorite squash, but I do appreciate it\'s ease- I simply slice it into wedges, add oil and seasoning and roast. I find it does best roasted a little longer than you would think- this brings out the nutty flavor AND some sweetness, and you just get a deeper flavor.

I planted a single vine of this squash, and it spread prolifically. It also produced prolifically (26 squash!), but while all entries on this type suggest it produces medium-sized squash, I ended up with most of mine in the 1-3 pound range, and a few half-pound midgets. The flavor does have a hint of nuttiness once the squash have been cured for a little while, but I have found the meat to be a bit lacking in depth and overall flavor. I think \"bland\" would be a fair descriptor. There are far tastier winter squashes; I tried this as a novelty this year, but I won\'t be growing it again.

wonderful flavor will grow as a winter main stay. Wish yield was higher for space required, but worth growing

I was not impressed with this squash at all. The taste was good, but nothing special and did not taste like hazelnut at all in my opinion. The critters were very fond of this one and easily chewed through the soft rind and devoured several squash that I know of and severely damaged the remainder. Even the squash with minimal damage did not keep well at all, barely a month before they started getting soft.

Black Futsu has been very easy to grow in our amended clay soils. It presents and sells well for us at farmer's markets, both as seedling plants with photos and descriptions and as a fall market crop. The delicious, sweet dry flavor has a distinctive hint of hazelnuts, making it one of our favorites.
