Saw a pack of these on a seed rack. My mom grew this when I was young. Decided to give them another go around. They were great. Produced a lot. Loved the taste--I eat most of my peas straight from the pod. They tasted better than a couple of other newer varieties that I also grew--I won\'t be growing the other varieties again, will continue to grow Little Marvel. Had great germination. Planted very early and they didn\'t mind the cool weather at all. So..the one problem I had with them is worms!(moths) I didn\'t even know there was such a thing. So these little critters: Cydia nigricana were not noticable in the first peas I picked, but getting later into the season, I noticed some peas with what appeared to be holes in them, cut them open and found these little worms. The pods were undamaged and from the outside you couldn\'t tell there was a problem. Typically only one pea in a pod would have a worm in it. Because of the yuck factor, I pulled the vines early and got rid of them. But I don\'t think it had anything to do with the variety, I think that the pea moths will get into any peas. About those vines-- One of the reasons I chose little Marvel was so that I wouldn\'t need to trellis. I should have! My vines were nearly four feet long (notice long, not tall), and totally collapsed on themselves which made picking hard. We never trellised these when I was little because they never got more than about 2 feet tall. Not sure what happened? So...floating row covers might be a good thing to protect from pea moths. A trellis is a must for these.. but I think they are worth it.

Pea "Little Marvel" is a favorite to many. Our wet and rainy weather sown seeds were washed out. So are yield was so-so this season. In better weather Pea "Little Marvel" grow well.

Installed trellis and planted one row of peas on April 11. By mid-May, up and doing well. Good harvest, though some taste-tested were sweeter than others. Removed mature and faded plants on July 11.

Easy to grow. Peas are sweet, especially when picked while the peas are still tender. Typically 5 peas per pod.

Shorter pods. Taste is good but peas seemed to get woody quickly if not picked.

This was my first year planting peas. I meant to plant them last year, but life got in the way. This year's crop was started from last year's seed. The Spring crop did great. I only had about 12 plants, but ended up with peas for a bunch of meals. We meant to freeze some, but they were too tasty not to eat them fresh from the garden. Production was better than I expected. Most of the descriptions say 18"-24" plants. My plants were closer to 36". But they support themselves pretty well. I will grow these again. I actually have the Fall crop of these in the ground right now. Instead of a dozen plants, the Fall crop will be in the neighborhood of 150 plants if they all germinate.

This is my first crop of peas (this spring). I planted the Little Marvel peas in the fall and throughout the winter and got a decent crop of the peas before it got too warm. I was going to keep them as a seed crop (for next year) and to rejuvenate the nitrogen in my garden but they produced so much that we have had about 20 servings from a very small area. What I enjoy most about this pea is that, given that you plant a lot of them together, they are able to support themselves relatively well and are very little maintenance. Keeping the ground moist and dark (free of weeds) was yet another benefit of these peas. The taste is decent- better when the pods are dark green and dryer when the pods start lightening up. They must taste pretty good raw because I had a hard time getting my kids to shell them without eating them.

This was just OK for me. The flavor was decent, but just not as sweet as I expect in a good fresh pea. Didn't get much out of them at all before the warm weather came.

Found the flavor to be a bit woody. The vines were also MUCH bigger than 24" and became an unsupported tangled mess. That said, the flowers are quite beautiful.

If you value taste over productivity then Little Marvel is hard to beat There are certainly more productive peas to be had but none better flavored.

Due to drought and the late Easter freeze I only had about 8 of these germinate. However, these eight little plants produced over a pint of shelled peas that were tender and oh so sweet. Each pod had 6-9 plump peas. I will grow this again without hesitation.

Excellent producer, just wouldnt quit producing. I harvested for 6 weeks from my first row, and the second is just starting. Consistantly good quality, and flavor. Heat did not bother the quality. 5-6 peas each pod.
