Definitely a cold season crop. I used to grow them in China, and they are the best winter vegetable for Yangtze region, roughly zone 8. Harvest early, and do not over feed. Here I start them in late September and harvest before Christmas. It tastes best when it is stir fried with bacon. |

I grow HonTsai Tai at the South Pole Food Growth Chamber. It is one of my best winner's and the crew loves it too. I operate and Hydroponics system at the Amundsen-Scott Base, South Pole, Antarctica |

Interesting for variety with a spicier, mustardy taste, but this green (almost like a broccoli raab) can go rather stick-like with hardened stems and bolt more quickly. |
