An older shipping melon, that grows well in Georgia. This melon grows quite well on sandy soils, tends to bottlenose on heavier soils. Quality is about avergage for melons of its vintage. There is a Tom Watson watermelon festival each year at Tom Watson's plantation in Thompson, Ga. They give all the vistors a watermelon. Since it is only about 20 miles from me, I participate. Other than for nostalgia, I am not impressed by this cultivar. It is not as tasty as more modern melons and has some tendency to bottlenose under stress, tho not as susceptible as its contemporaries, Kleckly's Sweet or Georgia Rattlesnake.
