Short vines have tons of tendrils, are self-supporting if planted in wide rows. Pods are surprisingly large, very sweet & tender, and hold quality for a long time. The problem I have is with its poor germination; very poor if planted early with my shelling peas, often 25% or less. This may be due to my heavy soil, or the presence of Verticillium in my area. It seems to do best if planted later, in warmer soil. Very hard to save seed from, they are very sensitive to moisture; late summer rains destroy them. The quality is great, I wish this variety was hardier. |
