So this is not really an edible squash! It's bitter. That might even mean poisonous! However you would not eat it because of the extreme bitterness. If you get one that is not, it's OK as the toxins are the bitter components. I think this was grown for use as a gourd. These dry and make tough gourds - probably in an area where Lagenaria siceraria will not grow. All of my collected fruit dried and did not rot. They may have been used as floats for fishing? Maybe the seeds are edible, but I did not try them. They may be bitter too - if so don't eat them. However this would also make a great breeding plant as it was the earliest of the cushaws by far for me here in my cool-night, hot day climate. One of the fruits also came in second for the grand prize at the County Fair.
