I planted Arikara and Butterbush squash seeds at the same time, in similar soils and conditions. Th Butterbush has yielded fruit, but the Arikara hasn't, despite supposedly being earlier. In fact, it's only had two female flowers bloom, and both of those went unfertilized. However, it hasn't been a total disappointment, because there has been a profusion of male blossoms that I've been able to harvest for frying. Perhaps this squash does not like the intense heat of a late TX summer. I will plant again earlier in the spring and update my review then. The vines are long and vigorous. |
