Grew this in a container and it went crazy. I did not get it the best attention, but it took off and grew tremendously. Not sure about the reports of it only getting 2 foot vines - perhaps under certain conditions? It grows up trellises much farther - for me to 10 feet. \r\nProductive too. And these don\'t get over-mature quickly (much slower than any other I\'ve grown). Also they last a really long time once picked - I had some last three months (dry cool conditions)! These were bred in the south, but do very well here in a short growing season area with cool nights (50\'s) and hot days 95+. These are a pickling variety, but of course you can use them as slicers too. Going to try these in the ground this year without trellises and see how they do.

This one deserves 5 stars for my area. I planted 20 plants in June, in July I started picking fruit. By then the vines on my trellis were 5 ft tall, and ended up hanging over the top of 7 ft trellis. I picked fruit from above my head. Of the 20 plants, I got over 100 lbs of good looking well shaped fruit, 6-7 inches long, good tasting cukes and went very well at farmers market in Denton TX.

We could not give these a very fair trial this year as we were over-run with squash bugs. The only remedy I have found that works on squash bugs is a re-chargeable "dust-buster" type vacume. We mulched heavily with old hay and I have read a heavy mulch just provides them places to hide. Next year no mulch maybe and we will be on the lookout for the tiny brown bug eggs. The cucs we did get tasted very good. One thing about Sumter is the cucs don't get long as they mature, they just get fat and chunky.

Short 2 ft. vines. Mild flavor. Excellent viability.
