Sophie’s Choice lived up to its reputation of being an early good tasting determinate for me in Northern VA. I planted one in a self-watering container about 3 weeks before our average frost date. There were 2-3 nights I had to cover the plant but it came through like a champ when the Sprite planted next to it died (also covered). The tomatoes were about 2” in diameter on plants that only got about 18” high and tasted good, better than my experiences with Early Girl but not quite up to par with mid-season reds. True to what I’ve read about it the plant died as soon as it got hot but it is a determinate. I will plant again since it does exactly what I wanted in the container and provided me with the an early good tomato to start the season.

I grew this plant in a one gallon pot on my windowsill last winter, and was very pleased. It produced a large crop of large tasty fruit in an incredibly short time. I can't wait to see what it will do in a two-gallon pot!

Very, very early and a very small determinate plant. The first couple of them had good flavor, but the rest sunburned when the plant flattened out which is why it gets a 3. Growing it again this year, but will use small tomato cages to protect them from sunburn and will try one in a 5 gallon pot.
