I, too, got the free packet of seed from Jung and did not want it to go to waste. It was said to be a good variety for making tomato juice, and I thought, well, why not? I hate to speak ill of an innocent tomato, but this tomato came in absolute last of about 22 varieties at our annual Tomato Tasting, and while the margins between other varieties was often small, the gap between the others and this tomato was significant. No one liked it. Comments included "sour," "did not like texture," "do not grow again," and the even more succinct "Yuck." Granted, 2009 was a difficult tomato season, but this really is the only one that no one liked at all. If you are considering Wayahead for an early tomato, there are better alternatives. For earliness and strong growing from the start, Gregori's Altai beat Wayahead by far in all categories -- germination time, rate, speed of growth, strength, bearing in the garden, size, meatiness, and flavor.

I received Wayahead seeds from www.jungseed.com as a give-a-way. I usually only plant paste tomatoes. Wayahead is your regular red round tomato. These tomatoes are GREAT! Fantastic taste and so easy to turn into paste/sauce. They are heirloom so work for seed saving

I rarely grow the really early tomatoes here, and I tried this one by accident. Sandhill sent me a sample packet with my order and I don't let anything go to waste. It was quite a pleasnt surprise. It took off and beat all the others to ripeness by a considerable margin. Both the plant and the tomato are small, so that evn tho the plants load up nicely, the comparitive yield is low to moderate. I am not overly fond of round reds, but recipients would come and make a point of saying "that is the best tasting little tomato". There are two cultivars being sold as "Wayahead". This is the one introduced by Jung.
