I'd had planted this onion years ago and decided in the winter of 2005 to give it another try along with 2 other varieties, Texas 1015Y and a red onion (forgot the name..) Both of the yellow onions had a great sweet flavor with the 1015Y possibly? being a bit sweeter. The Granex did seem to have a better shelf life than the 1015Y.
The Granex 33 seeds are on just about everyone's seed rack which begin to display in January. In Louisiana, one would purchase the seeds during spring, plant them in September, set plants in December, and harvest April the following year.. |

This was the original "Vidalia " onion. Today there are almost 20 hybrids of this type approved fro growing as "Vidalia " onions, Many of which has advantages in disease resistance, yield and maturity dates over the old hybrid Yellow Granex. It is widely sold to home gardeners as Georgia Sweets by Bonnie Plant Farms. It is a reliable short day onion, planted in winter for harvest in May. |

Yellow Granex, aka Vidalia that you find in the grocery store, is a delicious, sweet onion. I generally buy the transplants from the local garden store. Generally, I try to grow them in the best soil possible. If I set them out around the end of February, I'm harvesting them the first or second week in June. If onions upset you stomach, go with this variety. |
