This pole lima has exceptional lima flavor from very large beans, very slow to get starchy. I hold pods to the sun to see if the beans are large enough to pick as you cannot always tell by feel or pod size. They are somewhat difficult to get started - I do so in peat pots indoors several weeks before placing in the garden. They grow tall and need a strong trellis at least 6' high. Pods contain 3-5 large beans. I mark about 15-20 pods that have 4-5 beans with ribbons and let them dry on the vine for use the next year as the seeds are pricey retail. They need about 3' spacing betwn. plants and some growers remove excess leaves to get more sun to the pods. Devoloped by Dr. Martin in West Chester PA years ago, they have a cult following among PA gardeners. They beat any other lima I have grown for taste. Try them out.
